The people of High Clan Tairan are stereotypically honest and
upstanding people. They try as hard as they can to maintain the
traditions and ways of lost High King Ian Lirnaan. They still
speak of his glorious reign and their optimism regarding his return is
nearly of religious magnitude. This fervor seems to grow each year he
has been gone instead of diminishing as one might expect. Among the
ruling class however, realism has set in and the Return is mostly
viewed in a metaphorical sense.
They are governed in a quasi-feudalistic manner in which the King is a
descendant of Tairan, just as King Lirnaan left things.
The rule does suffer the same injustice inherent in a
feudalistic society and opportunistic lords do take
advantage of peasants under their control, however it is a slightly
idealistic climate. While there
is a definite stratification of society, each town or
fief has a court in which all men speak as equals. The
court is presided over by a local chief or druid. Charges
can be brought against anyone and traditionally, the
judgments are of law not of favoritism. Rarely
though do the lower classes bring charge against the
noble class; partly due to the fact that they view it as
their lot in life to serve and partly due to the fact
that tradition isn't always the absolute rule. This
feudalistic society is of the better agricultural producers in
Eyru and often provides stores to the other High Clans.
They have slowly forged a stronger (though not entirely
steady) bond with clan Erinin and hire many of that clans
skilled craftsmen for work though in general, their
carpentry skills far surpass those of clan Erinin.
Clan life has been greatly
consolidated over the centuries. Originally, in the High
King's day, countless clans existed, each with their own
king or chieftain. They all swore allegiance to the
High King though conflicts between clans were not
unknown. Currently, there is one High King who is a
descendant of Tairan. Beneath him are only three
remaining petty kings. These kings are descended from the
three strongest of the original clans who chose to remain
loyal to the High King and his chosen successor, Tairan.
